The history of the challenge coin dates back about 100 years ago, where it was once a military coin tradition but is now done all over the United States.
The coin challenge is basically used as a drinking game (or at least, as a means of initiating getting drinks), and is very easy to pick up on.
The whole point is to not be last, or you will lose.
First, the challenge must be initiated by someone calling a coin check. It could be something as simple as holding up the challenge coin and saying “check” or it could be placed on the bar or table loud enough for your peers to hear.
Heck, you could even throw it across the room and scream “coin check!” and it’ll still count (please don’t do that).
After the check has been initiated, everyone else has to draw their challenge coins in the same manner, meaning if you placed your coin on the table or held it in the air, or however you initiated it, they have to follow suit.
If a member of the group did not properly respond to the coin draw (like if they didn’t draw the same way as the challenger or they simply don’t have their coin within reach) then they have to buy a round for the whole group.
If everyone you’ve challenged is able to respond correctly, however, you have to buy the drinks.
Coin checks can be initiated anytime, anywhere, so you’d better be sure you have yours on you at all times!
